A Beautiful Mind and A Wonderful Jurist.  November 22, 2022

Chief Justice John Roberts isn't Liberal, far from it. However, he isn't what the Republicans expected. And they are not willing to conceal their disgust.

"If Justice Roberts wants to be a politician, he should resign and run for office," Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., tweeted.

"The most disappointing week at SCOTUS in years," tweeted Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., who once served Roberts as a law clerk at the high court.

"Judging is not a game. It's not supposed to be a game," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, intoned on the Senate floor. "But sadly, over recent years more and more, Chief Justice Roberts has been playing games with the court to achieve the policy outcomes he desires."

Those are just a sample of the tantrums from Republican lawmakers when the DACA decision that wasn't favorable to them came out. The Chief Justice is still very much a conservative-leaning Jurist, but he isn't politically partisan like Justice Clarence Thomas.

For instance, the Republicans' crusade to kill the Affordable Healthcare Act wasn't informed by logic, law, morality, commonsense, or deep jurisprudential considerations; it was just plain stupid and idiotic. And the Chief Justice couldn't sign on to it.

However, the recent decision on Rove v. Wade isn't political, but ideological and constitutional. On the flip side, most of the states that went to the bank with the decision are now paying for it at the poll. It's about a woman's rights.
