The Tompolo's Pipelines Surveillance Success Story. October 29, 2022
When the World Bank's reports came out, acknowledging the inability of Nigeria to meet its crude oil production quota as set by OPEC in order to satisfy the heightened demands of the markets created by the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Presidency and stakeholders in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry didn't see the story. But I did. And I took a bold step.
To mitigate the shortfalls, I came up with a simple recommendation: Go to the Niger Delta and confront the problems on the ground by eliminating the saboteurs and ending the age-old alienation of the indigenous people in the crude oil economy. Adding that taking those steps, will enable a peaceful investment climate in the Niger Delta.
But no one in government was reading me or reading the Word Bank's reports.
No presidential candidate was on site, reading my frontal attack and recommendations, or had a hint of the World Bank's reports.
No Senatorial Candidate was reading me or reading the Word Bank's reports.
No Nigerian intellectual or public affairs commentator was there to digest the reports and offer workable solutions, despite the fact that crude oil is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.
And all the President Men were busy strategizing on how to win the Presidential election, while the economy was cascading dangerously towards avoidable doom due to revenue shortfalls.
Then came August 31st when the global media was inundated with the massive 2nd quarter profits that Saudi Arabia made from the sale of crude oil, thanks to the surge in demand necessitated by the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Seeing the reports, this author couldn't hold his peace any longer. In a lengthy essay, he took the Presidency and the management of the NNPC Ltd to task, questioning their ability to manage the sector, and proceeded to give them a tutorial on the concepts of social license.
And the NNPC Management was forced into action and Mr. Tompolo got a Pipeline Surveillance Contract.
Peace was restored.
And the hundreds of illegally connected pipelines that serve as conduits for the siphoning of about 80% of our daily crude oil were discovered and dismantled.
One, I was able to identify with a vital developing story no one else could consider newsworthy, meaningful, or substantially related to our foreign revenue-earning downturn.
And two, I succinctly articulated reasonable solutions to the identified problems. And the NNPC team acted accordingly to serve a public benefit.
If you support my Senatorial campaign to ensure victory at the poll, you will be getting more than the Niger Delta peace accord and the resuscitation of the crude oil bailout that my work.
