Forfeited Sovereignty? Not Yet. April 24, 2023

A country cannot outgrow the managerial expertise and leadership acumen of those appointed and elected to manage its resources and human capital.
You cannot eat your cake and have it; unrepentantly, we populate our corridors of power with misfits-misfits and expect state-owned infrastructural facilities to run efficiently and businesses to be profitable.
Only in Nigeria do we accept and glorify a culture of benching the 1st and 2nd Eleven Team while the 3rd Eleven is constantly on the pitch, groping in the dark amidst blazing sunlight, searching fruitlessly for the goalpost.
We must first conquer our fear and sense of denial if we must get it right as a nation-state. Can we set aside religious bigotry, geographical and tribal questions, godfatherism, and nepotism?
Can we be bold enough and conscientious enough to adopt the Singapore growth model of Lee Kuan Yew? Can we learn to trust each other and eliminate all ethnic boundaries tearing us apart?
Why couldn't a Ndigbo be a Minister of Defense or Internal Affairs? Or a Barr Alex Ehi Aidaghese be the Minister of the FCT or the Chairman of the EFCC, the GMDG of NNPC, or the DG of Nigeria Customs and Immigration?
Why must the leadership of some federal institutions and organizations be unreachable for some categories of Nigerians?
Every one of us knows these anomalies do exist and are divisive. Nevertheless, we have accepted them as the uncomfortable truth and national ethos.
Yet, the leadership wants peace and progress. How can you dream of building a great new nation when we abhor egalitarian aspirations and equal opportunities? How? Those are the urgent questions for the incoming administration.

It is not looking well for our dear country Nigeria.
