Labour Shortage at the Seat of Power. August 06, 2023

The credible ones and the talented few within the ruling class are in a state of atrophy. The unchecked culture of godfatherism and recycling of privileged proteges for political appointments has exposed the level of greed and disconnect between the powerbrokers and the rest of us.

According to the Vanguard of August 01, 2023, "Utsev, who hails from Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, is said to be the candidate of Akume. The nominee in his resume indicated that he was born in 1980 and finished his primary education in 1989 at the age of nine, thereby drawing the attention of the Senate to how he would be in primary one at the age of three."
"The two others were Senator Abubakar Sani Danladi, Taraba, who was alleged to have been banned by the Supreme Court from holding public office for ten years, and Bello Mohammed from Sokoto State whose case had to do with his secondary school leaving certificate" Vanguard August 01, 2023.
Now, they are running out of steam, running out of the pool of the Talented Ten to fish from. Apology to W.E.B. Du Bois. Consequently, we are being compelled to contend with anything, credible or otherwise. President Buhari called it those he could trust, and they ended up spending eight years in office, changing nothing. And what do we call this? A government of the affiliates by the affiliates and for the affiliates?
Let's call a spade a spade. The emerging recycling is tantamount to perpetuating a culture of low expectations through the same-old-same-old recruitment culture. Dave Umahi and Wike were fantastic in the area of road networks in their respective states, so one can understand their inclusion and cut them some slack.
How did for crying out loud IBB discover Kalu Idika Kalu, Babs Fafuwa, Chu Okongwu, Bolaji Akinyemi, Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, as well as PAC members like Prof. Ojetunji Aboyade, Prof. Y. A. Aliyu, Dr. Michael Omolayole, Prof. Isawa Elaigwu, Dr. Effiong Essien, Prof. Ikenna Nzimiro and Prof. Francis Idachaba?
On May 29, 2023, in an essay, titled "THE EAGLE HAS LANDED: LET THE REVOLUTION BE TELEVISED," congratulating the new President, Barr Alex Ehi Aidaghese, wrote: "Governing and transforming Nigeria is the easiest thing to do if you have the right team - a selfless formidable, and ethnic-neutral team in place. To achieve that, you would need a couple of recruiters from the "outside" to collaborate with your inner political circle in the recruitment or hiring process to ensure the diversification of your entire workforce."
"We have human capital in abundance, as well as the natural resources necessary for a dramatic economic recovery and breakthrough. What is missing and has been missing is the presence of All the President's Men in action. Abuja is seemingly oblivious to our reality or cares to acknowledge the life we live. So, let's break the disconnect. Let accountability be your watchword." Culled from "THE EAGLE HAS LANDED: LET THE REVOLUTION BE TELEVISED." By Barr Alex Ehi Aidaghese - May 2029, 2023.
From all indications, the disconnect is still prominent. Must it always be politicians and friends or family members of political leaders? I saw it coming, even though I fought strenuously with my convictions not to accept the possibility. And that explains why I suggested to the Presidential recruiters in my May 29, 2023, essay to integrate into their recruitment circle recruiters who are not "members of the club."
Where among the new recruits is Chu Akongwu's wisdom and creativity in the old Imo State that catapulted him into the IBB's core team on the national stage? If you don't try something new; how would you rate the efficiency of the departing team? What's the population of Nigeria? How many universities do we have in Nigeria, producing graduates every year? And what's the population of our university lecturers and the plethora of technocrats managing industries in the private sector?
We deserve better. These newly hired have been around for so long. They came, they saw, but they didn't conquer. That narrative isn't mine. If they had conquered, Nigerians wouldn't be complaining about the old order, and you wouldn't be complaining about the enormity of the tasks you inherited. Therefore, they stand disqualified and ineligible for reappointment, because everybody is dissatisfied with the legacy or inheritance they left behind or bequeathed. Thank you.
